Merion Mercy Academy’s tennis team (a.k.a. “Mennis”) had an exceptional season. They qualified for the PIAA District 1 2A team tournament as the second seed and in the opening round bested Delaware County Christian School, sending MMA to the finals. On October 11, the team competed in the District finals ultimately dropping 2-3 to Lower Moreland. Merion’s last visit to the team tournament was 1997—25 years ago!
While the team as a whole performed well this year, juniors Sofiia Berestetska and Ashley Gomes pulled out all the stops to bring Merion Mercy Academy its first PIAA 2A state doubles tournament title on November 5. After winning District 1 2A, the girls won all four of their matches at the state tournament in straight sets. Gomes and Berestetska both played singles throughout the regular season, and were undefeated at first singles and second singles, respectively.
We congratulate the team and coach Bob Campbell for an incredible season!
